All the reports around the Cariboo lately are predictions for a good long “old-fashioned” winter with cold weather and lots of snow. (Of course all the people I have talked to are ski-addicts of one kind or another, and I think we are all just desperately hoping for a good year). Anyway, I can’t wait for winter – it’s the time for skis, books, couches, wood-stoves, knitting, and a bit of shovelling to keep it real. To get the rest of you in the mood, Tim has mixed up a batch of Spiced Hot Chocolate Mix – the perfect autumn and winter drink, especially with a soupçon of rum added!. The mix contains cinnamon, black pepper, and red chilies, so the best thing about it is you don’t have to share it with your kids!

Our friend John sent us this next photo. He was out paddling in August and we were not. Good for him!

Grainy Day goes to NWT!
John says, “Grainy Day gets a summer holiday on the Nahanni River in NWT! Unfortunately for Grainy Day, he did not survive the trip as a hungry paddler ate him. He enjoyed the trip while it lasted.”

Just because we love baking sooooo much, we were delighted to be asked by Dave Jorgenson, the organizer of the infamous Seven Summits Hike and Bike Challenge here in Wells, to produce some hearty loaves of bread as swag for the event participants. The event is this Saturday September 17. Here is what we came up with:

You too could have one of these cool loaves of bread - all you have to do is hike and bike your brains out for 7-13 hours!
